Wendover Productions

This video is on a topic that strangely results in skepticism so I'd encourage you, if you don't believe anything said, to look at the number on the bottom left of the video when something is said, find the corresponding number in the description, and read the source of the info. Every assertive fact in this video was researched and published by someone with far more qualifications than myself so those references are the ones to read to learn more.

I appreciate the references. I know attribution is a pain in the rear, but it adds gravitas to your work. You take it seriously, so I take you seriously. Good job.

Former arctic field scientist here. I would not recommend the number one thing you bring to the arctic be a camera. The number one item is thermal underwear. Before choosing which pair though, Skillshare.com probably has many courses that discuss the thermodynamics of heat loss and how various clothing textiles facilitate heat transfer.

How does he manage to make a video about the Arctic and not even mention Russia once? It's like talking about the state of North America without mentioning the USA. Kind of reminds me of his video on the arctic shipping routes without mentioning the most important one being the Northeast Passage.

I actually live in the arctic, in Norway’s biggest arctic city, which is Tromsø with around 76k inhabitants. There are cruise ships regularly here, and personally i find them bad. After they arrive, all of the snow in their vicinity is turned brown from their massive CO2 exhausts. And as for global warming, not only has there been less snow in the past years, but the snow comes later in the year, and also disappears earlier than before.

Greetings from Tromsø.

You forgot one major factor the Arctic will face in the future and that is the Geopolitical repercussions an open and accessible Arctic will have. You have many nations now attempting to assert their sovereignty in the North, with many territorial disputes still unsettled. This could lead to a militarization of the Arctic as countries try to secure their land and maritime territories. We are already starting to see it with the massive Russian military expansion in the Arctic, as well as US and Canadian procurement of new naval assets for Arctic patrol and control. Overall great video though!

That was very well done. While I already agree with your points made in this video, I really appreciate the reference stamps. Great job, Sam.

This is one of the most well made videos I have ever seen. Good job, Wendover. Keep up the good work. I do not "like" many videos on Youtube, but yours always get one from me.

The rise in temperatures in the Arctic in 2018 was part of a global phenomenon. Across the world last summer there was incredibly high temperatures - particularly in Europe, US and Japan - which is still having knock-on affects today (for example, in the UK we experienced 51 days with no rain in some areas which has meant crops have been lost).

This year I expect it to be lower, but of course over time it will gradually rise. You can tell 2018 was an anomaly in the data from your graph at the start of the video comparing Arctic temperatures from 2013, it rose to a much higher temperature at a much higher rate than the last few years.
